The story

Commissioned as a gift, Her Portrait grew out of a black-and-white photograph taken decades earlier. Working from age-worn details, the artist rebuilt the likeness one decision at a time — softening the jaw, holding the light on the cheekbone — until the drawing felt like the person the family remembered, not just the pixels of an old print.
